Meet Wendy

Wendy Lundsgaard is passionate about education. Her time in the classroom as a first- and fifth-grade teacher opened up the magical world of seeing a child learn. It also led her to understand the role literacy plays in learning and life beyond school. She is a certified reading specialist and has been active in helping teachers and schools understand and identify dyslexia in their students and provide support.

Her commitment to Orono Schools extends beyond the classroom. She has served on the district's Curriculum and Accountability Council, on a district Strategic Planning workgroup, and as Book Fair Co-Chair for eight years. She has testified at the state legislature on reading issues for Decoding Dyslexia MN and works closely with House and Senate members to pass literacy-related bills.

She and her husband, Christian, are proud parents of Maxine, 8th grade, and Franzi, 5th grade. They moved to the Orono district to be a part of a community that values education and believes all kids can succeed.

She is a hockey mom in her spare time- driving, being the team manager, and then driving some more. She would not trade it for the world.

She believes that a quality education is the most important thing a community can provide.  All kids deserve an excellent education.
